About
The Memory Studies Association
A professional association for memory studies scholars and for people active in museums, memorial institutions, archives, the arts and other fields engaged in remembrance.
What is memory studies?
How do we represent the past to ourselves and to others? Which of our many pasts do we represent, and when, where, and why do we change those representations? Memory studies draws on psychology, sociology, history, political science, anthropology, archeology, philosophy and literary studies, on fields like museum, media, oral history, heritage, archive and film studies, and on practice in technology, the arts and politics.
What the MSA does
The MSA aims to be the most important forum for the memory field, through an annual, international and interdisciplinary conference and a strong online presence. It actively invites scholars and practitioners who are underrepresented in existing networks, and fosters politically and civically engaged scholarship.
Groups and networks
- Working groups on themes across the field
- Regional groups, including the Africa Chapter, Latin America and MSA Nordic
- National networks connecting members country by country
- Early career academics: assemblies, seminars and MSA Forward
Group pages in the new site are edited by each group’s coordinators, with their own events and member lists.
